Graphic Design Internship Opportunity in Tuscaloosa

The Alabama Center for Real Estate is seeking a Graphic Design intern for the summer/fall sessions. The ideal candidate will have experience in Illustrator and InDesign. The candidate will be responsible for two major projects, our Huntsville Housing Guide and the Montgomery Housing Guide. The template for these already exists in our Tuscaloosa Housing Guide, so a lot of the projects will involve changing numbers to fit the market. This is a great opportunity for hands on graphic design work and exposure to one of Alabama’s top industries in real estate.

UA Alumni Association seeks assistant editor/communications specialist

The position is communications specialist in Alumni Affairs, but basically serves as assistant editor of Alabama Alumni Magazine and works directly with Lydia Avant. The person will also be in charge of the NAA annual report publication and will maintain all social media accounts for the NAA. We are looking for a very skilled editor, a strong writer, someone who has experience in inDesign and someone who is not afraid to come up with a good story idea and run with it.

Immediate Opening: General Assignment / Sports Reporter

The Selma Times-Journal has an immediate opening for a general assignment reporter to help cover historic Selma, Alabama and the region knows as the Black Belt of Alabama.

The position will focus on sports but will also include general assignment reporting and well as photography and design responsibilities of our six-day morning daily newspaper.

Successful candidates should possess strong organizational and editing skills and be familiar with newspaper design programs, including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and be fluent in AP style.

Maine sports camp seeks summer video editors

Camp Skylemar, a summer sports camp for boys in Naples, Maine, is looking for video editors for the duration of our camp this summer.

The job would be from June 14 to August 12. Duties would include conceiving and shooting video content of the campers, staff and activities, as well as editing and merging photos, music and narration into production segments. Applicants would also be building those segments into a 90-minute end-of-camp presentation. Applicants must be proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.

Salary for the summer is $2,500 – $3,500 depending on experience, and would include housing, meals, travel expenses, staff shirts, internet access and a laundry service. We offer internship credits as well.

Internship Opportunities at Alabama Public Radio in Tuscaloosa

Alabama Public Radio welcomes interns to the newsroom on a continuing basis, including fall and spring terms. Internship application deadlines are: August 1 (for fall), December 1 (for spring), and April 15 (for summer). Applications are available at the apr.org website.

Each intern is trained by the director to write his or her own story every day. Students research the story, track down interview subjects, do the interview, and write copy to be edited (all under supervision of the professional staff.)

Student writers’ material is used on APR newscasts, and interns often get to do spots for air. All from this work is done in the Digital Media Center inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. Director Pat Duggins turns students into crackerjack writers, which means jobs.

The Washington, DC based Institute on Political Journalism is now accepting applications for the February 8, 2017 Priority Deadline.

Sponsored by The Fund for American Studies, and in partnership with George Mason University, the Institute on Political Journalism (IPJ) is an eight-week summer academic internship program that offers undergraduate students a first-hand look at the journalism and communications in our nation’s capital through:

• An internship placement in journalism or strategic communications
• Courses for credit in economics and government
• Exclusive lectures, briefings and professional development seminars
• Housing in the heart of Washington, D.C.

Our goal is to provide students with hands-on experience in reporting, editing, interviewing and navigating the media landscape in Washington.
