Newspaper management scholarship open to rising seniors

The $2,500 W.H. Metz Newspaper Management Scholarship each year goes to a student planning a career in newspaper management. (Applications Must Be Submitted by Tuesday, March 30, 2021.)

  • The scholarship, from the Alabama Press Association Journalism Foundation, is open to rising seniors enrolled in a university or college in Alabama. Students who have declared a major in journalism or advertising will show a commitment to newspaper work, and students who major in other subjects and who have worked at newspapers or on high school or college newspaper staffs also will be considered.
  • The scholarship is offered without regard to race, sex, religion or national origin. Minority students are encouraged to apply.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who say they plan to work in management of newspapers in Alabama.
  • Applications will be reviewed by the APA Journalism Foundation Board of Directors, and a winner, if selected, will be notified in May. A check for the scholarship will be sent directly to the student in September 2020, after the scholarship recipient sends verification of enrollment in the fall semester or winter quarter to the APA office. The Foundation board may choose not to award a scholarship.
