Patch.com seeks three editorial interns in Tuscaloosa

Patch.com in Tuscaloosa has announced openings for three editorial interns in Tuscaloosa for the Spring 2021 semester. The positions include:

General assignment reporter: This intern will cover topics, ranging from local government to public events. The ideal candidate will be a student who has taken advanced news writing and/or related junior/senior level media classes and may be in need of internship experience and credit. The job is geared toward helping the student develop strong stories for publication and learn the day-in, day-out of news reporting, meeting deadlines and working with an experienced and award-winning editor. Other positives include photography/social media skills, a willingness to step outside of their comfort zone and a tenacity in getting the details of a story right in order to properly inform one’s community.

UA: This internship focuses on news from The University of Alabama. The ideal candidate will be a student who has taken advanced news writing and/or related junior/senior level media classes and may be in need of internship experience and credit. The intern will develop strong stories for publication and learn the day-in, day-out of news reporting.  Other positives include photography/social media skills, a willingness to step outside of their comfort zone and a tenacity in getting the details of a story right in order to properly inform one’s community. 

Sports reporter: Duties include coverage of college and high school sports in the spring. The candidate will need a working knowledge of traditional team sports, as well as individual sports such as golf, tennis, etc, and will need to have the scheduling availability in the evenings to be able to cover sports, as games generally take place later in the day. The intern will also have the opportunity to pursue feature stories on athletes, coaches and issues, with the internship geared toward developing the crucial skills needed to be an effective sports beat writer. Photography is a major plus for this position but not a requirement.
