The Greenwood, Miss., Commonwealth, a 3,500-circulation five-day daily, has an opening for a general assignment reporter. You’ll work hard, and in return we’ll provide both good coaching and interesting and varied assignments. You’ll cover local government, education, police and courts, plus enterprise work and features. Photography and/or videography skills would be helpful.
The Commonwealth publishes Tuesday through Saturday mornings. It is regularly judged one of the best small daily newspapers in Mississippi. It also publishes a general-interest quarterly magazine.
Greenwood is in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, an area with a complex civil rights history as well as a rich and varied culture, including great restaurants. It is farm country, but among its major employers are also Milwaukee Tool and Viking Range. Greenwood is also a place that values a newspaper willing to cover both the easy stories and the hard ones.
Compensation range is $26,000 to $30,000, depending on candidate’s abilities. Benefits include health insurance, 401(k) pension plan, life insurance, two weeks of paid vacation and up to one week of sick leave.
