Spring or Summer 2019 Student Intern– Northport Gazette Reporter
The Northport Gazette, located in downtown Northport, AL is seeking one to two dependable journalism interns to fulfill a semester internship as a news and feature writer for its weekly publication.
The intern will be expected to write, cover and file multiple stories each week on a tight deadline. The candidate should have a general knowledge of photography and will be expected to capture accompanying photos for each story. This person must carry themselves in a professional manner when in the office and the field. Excellent communication skills and a huge appetite for news and current affairs is a must.
Accurate, concise and clear writing is necessary for this role. The intern will have access to local events, government, lifestyle and crime coverage. The intern will be expected to file four to eight stories per week and must be available the first and third Monday of each month from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to cover the Northport City Council pre-meetings and regular called meetings. The intern will be expected to submit the news story by 7 a.m. the following day.
Interns will pitch unique story ideas and cover assigned assignments. The intern should possess strong social media skills and be able to make regular posts to our Facebook and Twitter platforms.
Should the candidate fulfill their responsibilities as instructed, the internship will satisfy the hours needed for the internship requirement through the intern’s respective college.
