Deadline nears for Hearst personality profile competition for student writers

Monday is the deadline to submit entries to Dr. Roberts for the national Hearst Journalism Awards Program for personality/profile writing.

The contest definition:

PERSONALITY/PROFILE WRITING
A personality sketch of an individual on or off campus. All articles must be disseminated in print or online or both from March 1, 2012 through March 12, 2013.

The Journalism Department awards $25 to the two entries from Alabama journalism students. Stories published in professional publications will require a note from an editor stating that you did the work. For an example, see UA senior Stephen Dethrage’s award-winning profile of Tuscaloosa City Council member Kip Tyner.

Contact Dr. Roberts for more information or to enter. And hurry.

P.S. The final deadlines are before April 1 for breaking news, and April 5 for multimedia team reporting for news.
